Acolytes have helped with worship services since the year 250 A.D. The word "acolyte" means a "companion" or "one who helps." The acolyte uses the lighters to light and extinguish the candles on the altar table. The crucifer carries the cross and the Bible presenter places the Bible on the pulpit, where the minister delivers his sermon. In accepting this position, you will be serving as a helper to your senior minister, Dr. Benson. You will also be performing a number of important functions before, during, and at the close of the worship service. Your job is important because you will be helping everyone else in your church worship God!
